TFC Draws Los Angeles In CCL Quarters

Toronto FC has been paired with fellow MLS outfit Los Angeles Galaxy in the quarterfinals of the 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League, scheduled to take place in March.

The Reds advanced into the championship round of the continent’s premier club competition by winning the 2011 Nutrilite Canadian championship, beating Real Esteli of Nicaragua in the CCL preliminary round, and then finishing second in Champions League Group C behind Mexico’s Pumas UNAM.

Toronto secured passage to the quarterfinals on the final day of group stage matches, beating 2010 MLS Cup finalist FC Dallas 3-0 in Frisco, Texas.

Los Angeles made it into the Champions League by winning the league in 2010.

In the group stage of CCL, Los Angeles finished first in its quartet ahead of Morelia of Mexico.

The final dates for the two-leg quarterfinals have yet to be set, but Toronto will host the first game between March 6-8. The club has yet to confirm a venue, in case BMO Field is thought to be too cold in early March.
