Toronto FC Invites Fans To BBQ

Fans at the 2011 home opener.

Toronto FC is inviting fans to join them on Olympic Island this Sunday for an afternoon of pick-up soccer, burgers and fun. Fans will have the chance to play soccer, volleyball and a number of picnic-style games while being treated to a free BBQ and entertainment.

The free event will run from noon-3 p.m. - rain or shine - as part of TFC//TWELVE community days which began August 8 and runs through August 19.

During the 12 community days campaign, Toronto FC players, coaches, staff, with community members and other organizations have come together for the purpose of recognizing and supporting important initiatives and efforts in and around our city.

The TFC//TWELVE campaign kicked off with the entire first team attending the unveiling of the newly refurbished soccer pitch at Sorauren Park funded by the MLSE Team Up Foundation, Toronto FC’s Corporate Partner Kia Canada Inc., and Toronto’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation department. Following the unveil, TFC players conducted a soccer clinic for 40 youth members from the Sorauren Park Association.

Other activities this past week included the launch of Toronto FC’s Community Hero initiative, providing two local youth teams with the Best Game Ever, and a drop-in at The Stop to help teach kids about the importance of nourishment.

Before Sunday's picnic, Toronto FC will take on Real Salt Lake at BMO Field on Saturday (GOL TV Canada, 7 p.m. ET). TFC//TWELVE will be there for day six with a silent auction table at the Carlsberg Patio filled with unique items that can't be missed as the 12 days of community engagement hits halftime. The auction will be in support of MLSE Team Up Foundation and its mission of changing lives through the spirit and the power of sports.
