Champions League Group Stage Revealed

Toronto and Dallas will become Champions League foes (Paul Giamou).

Toronto FC discovered its full 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League group stage matches on Tuesday afternoon.

The Reds were already scheduled to play Tauro F.C. in Panama on Thursday, August 18 and return home to BMO Field on August 24 to face league rival FC Dallas. Both games are at 8 p.m. ET.

The remaining schedule is as follows (all times Eastern, home games in bold):

Wednesday, September 14: Pumas UNAM v. Toronto FC – 8 p.m.
Tuesday, September 20: Toronto FC v. Tauro F.C. – 8 p.m. at BMO Field in Toronto
Tuesday, September 27: Toronto FC v. Pumas UNAM – 8 p.m. at BMO Field in Toronto

Tuesday, October 18: FC Dallas v. Toronto FC – 8 p.m.

Toronto won the Nutrilite Canadian Championship to make it into the tournament for the third straight year. The Reds must finish in the top two of Group C in order to advance past this stage and into the CCL quarterfinals scheduled for March.

In the 2010/11 CCL campaign Toronto was beaten for second place in its group by Mexico’s Cruz Azul by just two points, with eventual Champions League finalist Real Salt Lake winning the group.

Pumas is the 2011 Clausura champion in the Mexican Primera Division. The Mexico City club is off to a good start in its 2011/12 season, winning the first three matches of the Apertura, before drawing Chivas Guadalajara in its last outing.

FC Dallas made it to MLS Cup Final last season after finishing fourth overall in the league. The Frisco, Texas based club currently sits second overall in MLS in 2011 and has beaten Toronto 1-0 in its league fixtures this year.

Tauro F.C. won the Panamanian Apertura in 2010. The Panama City side lost to CD Marathon in the CCL preliminary round last season.
