Julian de Guzman
and the Canadian squad will take on its neighbour, the United States, in what should prove to be a colourful Group C opener at Ford Field.

Aside from the U.S., Canada is joined by Panama and Guadeloupe in the quartet. On June 11, Canada faces Guadeloupe in Tampa, Florida and three days later in Kansas City, Panama will be the final round robin opponent. Top two teams from each of the three groups and the two best third place finishers will move on to the quarterfinals.

It was in the quarterfinals where Canada was knocked out in 2009, the last edition of this continental tournament, by a powerful Honduras side that appeared in the FIFA World Cup a year later.

In 2007, a controversial - and in some circles quite dubious - offside call against Canada in the semifinals against the U.S. denied the national team a chance to appear in the final versus Mexico.

Canada won the Gold Cup or CONCACAF Championship, as it was once known, in 1985 and 2000.
