De Rosario Named To MLS Best XI

Dwayne De Rosario

Toronto FC captain Dwayne De Rosario has been named to the 2010 Major League Soccer Best XI. It is the fifth time in his ten year MLS career that De Rosario, 32, has been named to the Best XI, and his second consecutive selection.

The midfielder finished the season as Toronto FC’s highest goal scorer. The Scarborough native scored 15 regular season goals in Major League Soccer, setting a new personal career high.

“Dwayne has had an outstanding season and we are very happy that his contribution to Toronto FC has been recognized,” said Earl Cochrane, Toronto FC interim director of soccer. “As our captain, Dwayne led by example on the pitch and this selection to the Best XI is a well deserved recognition for his performances.”

De Rosario was named Toronto FC’s captain in April 2010 following the retirement of Jim Brennan. He was voted MLS Player of the Week for week 5 of the 2010 season after registering a goal and an assist in Toronto FC’s 2-0 win against Seattle Sounders on Sunday, April 25 at BMO Field.

De Rosario was named to the 2010 MLS All-Star First XI and scored a goal as the All-Stars lost 5-2 to Manchester United at Reliant Stadium in Houston on July 28. It was his fifth consecutive All-Star selection.

The MLS Best XI is comprised of one goalkeeper, three defenders, five midfielders and two forwards.
