Training Notes: November 9, 2017

TORONTO – After a physical battle with the New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC are expecting a different type of challenge in the Eastern Conference Championship.

Taking on Trillium Cup foes Columbus Crew SC, the Reds are bracing for a difficult series as they look to return to the MLS Cup Final. Head coach Greg Vanney has some work to do in preparation for the two-legged affair, referencing the Crew’s ability to provide different looks in the attacking third.

“They have the ability to rotate different players into different positions when they’re in possession,” Vanney said following Thursday’s training session. “You have to be prepared to defend in slightly different ways. We have to be smart about how we go about things.”

In their last matchup against Columbus, the Reds put together one of their most complete performances of the season despite missing Jozy Altidore and Sebatian Giovinco, topping the Crew at BMO Field, 5-0. TFC could be in a similar situation in the first leg, opening the door for Tosaint Ricketts to enter the fray.

“That’s what I’m here for, to fill that gap when needed,” the Canadian international said. “I’m a team player, I’ll do anything for the team. I take pride in coming on in those moments and giving the team whatever it needs.”
