Toronto FC announced today the club has acquired winger Dániel Sallói from Sporting Kansas City in exchange for a guaranteed $300,000 General Allocation Money (GAM) – $150,000 in 2026 GAM and $150,000 in 2027 GAM – and an additional $700,000 in conditional GAM if certain performance-based metrics are met. As part of the transaction, Sporting Kansas City will also retain a sell-on percentage in the event of a permanent transfer outside MLS or trade within MLS of the attacker. The 29-year old winger will be added to the club’s roster pending his Canadian work permit, medicals and receipt of the International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
“We are very happy to welcome Dániel to Toronto,” said Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez. “As a captain and stalwart for SKC for many years, he will bring a welcome combination of MLS experience and impact to our group. We look forward to integrating him into the team and starting our journey together.”
A native of Siófok, Hungary, Sallói arrives at Toronto FC after spending the past 10 (2016-2026) years with Sporting Kansas City FC, where he made 253 appearances in Major League Soccer (MLS), contributing 59 goals and 45 assists. Sallói originally signed with Sporting KC as a Homegrown Player in 2016, becoming the fourth all-time Homegrown Player in club history. He made his Sporting debut when he came off the bench against Colorado Rapids on April 9, 2017.
In his debut season, Sallói scored the game-winning goal in the U.S. Open Cup Final against Red Bull New York, helping Sporting Kansas capture the trophy in 2017. During the 2018 season, the attacker enjoyed one of his most successful seasons, being named the club’s 2018 Golden Boot winner, tallying 16 goals and seven assists in all competitions and helping Sporting to first place in the Western Conference. In 2021, Sallói was named an MLS All-Star and was a finalist for both the Landon Donovan MVP and the MLS Comeback Player of the Year awards, after recording 16 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. In his 10 years with Sporting Kansas, the winger made a combined 287 appearances, registering 67 goals and 47 assists in all competitions.
Internationally, Sallói has earned four caps for the Hungarian National Team including his debut in a 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against England on September 2, 2021.
