Toronto FC Acquire Goalkeeper William Yarbrough

Toronto FC have signed Mexican-American goalkeeper William Yarbrough through the conclusion of the 2026 Major League Soccer (MLS) season with an option for the 2027 sprint season (June 2027), the club announced today.

“We are thrilled to welcome Will to the Toronto FC family,” said Toronto FC General Manager Jason Hernandez. “His veteran presence, proven leadership and experience complement our existing group of young goalkeepers, and we are excited to see him push the demands and standards of everyone in the locker room.”

The goalkeeper brings a wealth of experience, after having played for Mexico’s Liga MX clubs C.F. Pachuca and Club León (2012-2020) before joining MLS with Colorado Rapids (2020-2023), San Jose Earthquakes (2024) and Inter Miami CF (2025).

The 36-year-old goalkeeper joins Toronto FC following a successful season with Inter Miami, where he was part of the squad that captured the MLS Eastern Conference title and the MLS Cup in 2025. Prior to his short stint with Inter Miami, Yarbrough featured for the Quakes, making a combined 22 appearances across all competitions after he joined the club on January 16, 2024.

In his first MLS season, Yarbrough spent four seasons (2020-2023) with the Colorado Rapids under current TFC Head Coach Robin Fraser. During his time with the Rapids, the goalkeeper made a combined 107 appearances with 35 shutouts across all competitions and led Colorado to two MLS Cup Playoffs berths (2020, 2021). In 2023, Yarbrough recorded 11 saves in a match against Sporting Kansas City on March 4, the most by a goalkeeper in MLS that year.

The Aguascalientes, Mexico native began his career in the youth system of C.F. Pachuca, where he signed his first professional contract at the age of 16. During his time with Los Tuzos, Yarbrough was sent on three different loan spells with clubs Tampico Madero (2010-2011), Titanes Tulancingo (2011) and Club León (2012-13). In March 2013, the goalkeeper was transferred to Club León, where he became a fixture between the posts and helped lead León to back-to-back Liga MX championships (Apertura 2013, Clausura 2014). Yarbrough recorded 52 shutouts in 203 appearances for Club León during his eight-year stint with the club.

At the international level, Yarbrough represented the United States Men’s National Team, earning three caps in friendly games, including his debut against Switzerland in March 2015.
