Toronto FC midfielder Jonathan Osorio has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday (bench) for Matchday 31 following his all-action performance in the Reds’ 2-0 road win against Red Bull New York at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Saturday night.

Returning to the starting line-up after serving a suspension for yellow card accumulation in Matchday 30, Osorio was the heartbeat of the Reds’ disciplined and resilient performance, combining his trademark composure in possession with tireless work off the ball from kick-off to the final whistle.

With the Reds leading through an early Justin Che own goal, Toronto doubled their advantage late when Osorio made a crucial right-footed intervention to clear Emil Forsberg’s in-swinging corner before immediately springing forward to launch the counterattack. The club captain ran onto his own clearance before releasing Dániel Sallói with a perfectly weighted left-footed pass to set up a promising counter-attack. The Hungarian attacker carried the ball from his own half and raced through on goal before finishing emphatically past RBNY goalkeeper Ethan Horvath to make it 2-0.

Scored just 14 seconds after Forsberg’s corner at the other end, the 82nd minute strike marked Osorio’s 60th MLS assist for Toronto FC and his fourth assist of the 2026 MLS season.

In addition to his decisive contribution for the goal, Osorio delivered a tireless two-way performance in the middle of the park. The Toronto, Ontario native led the Reds in passes (33), successful passes (27), distance covered (12.12 km), intensive runs (60) and high-speed runs (49), underlining his influence on both sides of the ball. The 34-year-old’s tireless work rate and all-round impact helped secure the important 2-0 road win, which completed an unbeaten three-game week for Toronto FC (2W-1T) and marked the Reds’ first away victory against Red Bull New York since March 6, 2016.

The honour marks Jonathan Osorio’s 15th career MLS Team of the Matchday selection and his first of the 2026 MLS season. In total, Toronto FC have now earned 14 MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2026 MLS regular season – Josh Sargent (3), Niklas Dorsch (2), Luka Gavran (2), Emilio Aristizábal (1), José Cifuentes (1), Theo Corbeanu (1), Richie Laryea (1), Jonathan Osorio (1), Dániel Sallói (1) and Walker Zimmerman (1).
