Three Keys to the Match: Minnesota United FC vs. Toronto FC

MIN Three Keys 2018

The first of four straight on the road. Here are the Benjamin Moore three keys to an Independence Day match vs. Minnesota United.
Batman and Superman

Going back to their days in the NASL, Minnesota has counted on two primary weapons up top in Miguel Ibarra and Christian Ramirez.

The two have been playing side-by-side for years dating back to their time with the Orange County Blue Stars of the USL PDL and have created quite the 1-2 punch for the Loons. Ramirez (aka Superman) leads the team with four goals while Ibarra (Batman) has pitched in three goals and four assists. The Reds will need to keep this dynamic duo off the scoresheet in order to walk out of TCF Bank Stadium with a result.

First Fifteen

Looking to bounce back from Sunday’s loss at BMO Field, the Reds will need to get off to a quick start in Minnesota.

After conceding in the fourth minute to the Red Bulls, TFC must put a premium on staying compact during the opening actions of the first and second half. This will allow them to grow into the game and put the match on their terms rather than chasing from the offset.

Finishing Touch

The Reds created plenty of chances on Canada Day, but their wastefulness in front of goal cost them on the day.

On the road, they’ll have to be even more locked in in front of goal. However, the Loons have conceded nearly two goals a game this season, so Giovinco and company could see a good few chances on Wednesday night.
