Rongen Ready To Teach

Thomas Rongen knows something about football.

Having coached at four Major League Soccer teams, national youth squads and a tiny island nation that captured the imagination of the planet in an emotional 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, Rongen conveys enthusiasm about the beautiful game like very few can.

It is in that spirit Toronto FC Academy will add another layer to its growing list of activities. On March 15, TFC will extend its Training Programs to youth players outside the Academy who want to learn and excel at various levels.

The goal may be recreational, elite, or learning to play forward like TFC Under-19 team leading scorer and first team training camp invitee Stefan Vukovic, the programs will have a wide range of options administered by coaches under the direct supervision of Academy director Rongen.

The Dutchman, who has won virtually every coaching honour imaginable in Major League Soccer, shaped the entire curriculum of these Training Programs.

Aside from invaluable tutelage, participants will have the benefit of accessing the Toronto FC Academy and Training Facility at Downsview Park, the $20 million soccer investment slated to open this spring. Perks of the grounds include its strength and conditioning centre, theatre and meals in the same dining hall where Toronto’s first team breaks bread.

Registration for Training Programs begins on March 15. Parents can choose from four different camps below for the best fit.

When Rongen joined Toronto FC Academy, he said he “always knew there was an abundance of talent” in Canada and particularly Toronto. These camps starting for kids as young as the under-six age group, could allow that talent to shine while having fun and gathering lasting memories along the way.
