THROUGH THE YEARS

TFC host 2019 MLS expansion side FC Cincinnati for the 16th all-time regular season meeting between the two clubs. Historically, Toronto hold a 5W-9L-1T record through their first 15 encounters with Cincinnati. The conference rivals recently met on March 8 at TQL Stadium, where Dániel Sallói’s late strike secured a 1-0 road victory for TFC, marking the club’s first-ever win at TQL Stadium along with their first victory and clean sheet of the 2026 MLS season. On Saturday, the Reds will look to record their first home win over the Orange and Blue since September 29, 2021, when second-half goals from Jacob Shaffelburg, Mark Delgado and Ifunanyachi Achara inspired a 3-2 comeback victory at BMO Field.

ONE STEP FORWARD

The Reds enter Matchday 7 on the back of consecutive wins and a four-match unbeaten run dating to March 8. Following a 1-0 road victory over FC Cincinnati on March 8 and a 1-1 tie against Red Bull New York in their 2026 Home Opener on March 14, Toronto closed out an unbeaten March with a 2-1 comeback win over the Columbus Crew. Goals from José Cifuentes and Walker Zimmerman at BMO Field on March 21 secured all three points and the club’s first home victory of the 2026 MLS season.

Last Saturday, Toronto FC recorded a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids in a five-goal, intra-conference thriller at BMO Field. Colorado’s Jackson Travis was shown a straight red card in the 35th minute before Toronto’s Raheem Edwards was sent off in the 49th minute. Paxten Aaron opened the scoring from a direct free-kick in the 51st minute, with Keegan Rosenberry doubling the lead two minutes later. Richie Laryea pulled one back in the 65th minute before the Rapids were reduced to nine men when Miguel Navarro received a second yellow card. Toronto levelled through an unusual own goal by Rapids goalkeeper Zack Steffen, before Josh Sargent’s header from an Alonso Coello corner secured the 3-2 result and all three points for the hosts. On the day, Brazilian defender Matheus Pereira made his TFC debut as a 52nd minute substitute, becoming the sixth player to debut for the Reds in 2026. With the victory, Toronto FC extended their unbeaten streak at home to 10 matches, recording four wins and six ties dating back to June 25, 2025.

TEAM OF THE MATCHDAY

On April 6, Toronto FC forward Josh Sargent was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday (bench) for Matchday 6 following his match-winning performance in the club’s 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids. Trailing by two goals with both sides reduced to 10 men, Sargent set up Toronto’s opener in the 65th minute, finding Richie Laryea on the right flank who beat goalkeeper Zack Steffen with a near-post finish, marking his first assist since joining the club in February. With the match level at two, Sargent then headed home Alonso Coello’s in-swinging corner in the 85th minute to score his first TFC goal and complete the second-half comeback and seal back-to-back wins for the Reds. The honour marked Sargent’s first MLS Team of the Matchday selection with Toronto FC in his third appearance for the club. The Reds have now earned three MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2026 MLS season – Richie Laryea, Josh Sargent and Walker Zimmerman (one each).

The Canadian midfielder became only the third player in MLS history to achieve the feat with a single club. Last Saturday, a special pre-match ceremony honouring Osorio’s historic milestone took place with General Manager Jason Hernandez, Head Coach Robin Fraser and the Osorio family prior to kick-off against Colorado at BMO Field.

Canadian forward Deandre Kerr has made 99 MLS appearances for Toronto FC since joining the club in January 2022 and his next league appearance will be his 100th MLS appearance for the Reds.

RETURN OF THE YOUNG REDS

GA CUP GLORY | (GENERATION ADIDAS CUP GLORY)

Toronto FC Academy’s U-15 and U-16 teams recently competed at the 2026 Generation adidas Cup, the premier international youth tournament featuring 80 teams across the two age groups, at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Led by Head Coach Taylor Lord, the U-15 side captured the Premier bracket title with a 2-1 win over South Korean club Seongnam FC in the final, capping a five-match unbeaten run that included victories over top European sides, Bayern München and FC Barcelona, while only conceding once. The U-16 side also reached the Championship bracket after topping their group, before falling to Real Salt Lake in the quarter-finals.

Toronto FC’s player pathway continues to be reflected across all levels of the club, with 10 current First Team players previously progressing through the TFC Academy ranks: Markus Cimermancic, Theo Corbeanu, Adisa De Rosario, Raheem Edwards, Kobe Franklin, Malik Henry, Stefan Kapor, Deandre Kerr, Adam Pearlman and Lazar Stefanovic.

Hagglund-Etienne

ONCE A RED

Saturday’s matchup against FC Cincinnati may potentially feature a reunion with former Toronto FC defender Nick Hagglund. A Cincinnati, Ohio native, Hagglund was selected 10th overall by TFC in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and made 115 appearances across five seasons (2014 – 2018), playing a key role in the club’s historic 2017 domestic treble (MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship). He joined his hometown club via trade in January 2019 ahead of its inaugural MLS campaign and now ranks among Cincinnati’s all-time leaders in appearances, starts and minutes played. Hagglund was named the 2025 MLS Comeback Player of the Year and is the only player to have been part of all eight of the club’s MLS seasons.

On the other side, TFC’s Derrick Etienne Jr. previously spent time on loan with FC Cincinnati during the 2019 MLS season, making five appearances, including his debut in the first-ever “Hell is Real” derby against Columbus Crew on August 10, 2019.
