STEP BY STEP

The Reds enter Matchday 33 following the end of their three-match unbeaten run in the weekend’s MLS action. Following a home win over CF Montréal and a draw against Orlando City, TFC earned a 2-0 road victory over Red Bull New York at Sports Illustrated Stadium on October 17. The Reds took an early lead in the third minute when Theo Corbeanu’s dangerous delivery into the box was turned into his own net by defender Justin Che. Toronto doubled their advantage in the 82nd minute when Jonathan Osorio’s clearance from Emil Forsberg’s corner sparked a counter-attack finished emphatically by Dániel Sallói for his eighth goal of the season. Goalkeeper Luka Gavran and the Reds’ rearguard held firm to secure the club’s fourth clean sheet of the 2026 MLS regular season. The victory capped a three-game week with two wins and a draw and marked Toronto’s first away win against Red Bull New York since March 6, 2016.

On October 24, Toronto FC fell 4-2 on the road against Columbus Crew at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field. Columbus took control with first-half goals from Gonzalo Tapia and Malte Amundsen before Amundsen added his second early in the second half and Brooks Lennon made it 4-0 in the 59th minute. The Reds responded in the 69th minute when Theo Corbeanu’s cross from the right found Dániel Sallói at the back post for a powerful header. The goal marked Sallói’s team-leading ninth of the season and 19th goal contribution. Columbus were then reduced to 10 men when Sekou Bangoura received a second yellow card for a foul on Corbeanu. Toronto cut the deficit to two in the 81st minute when Jonathan Osorio and substitute Emilio Aristizábal combined to set up Josh Sargent, who fired a powerful effort from outside the box beyond goalkeeper Patrick Schulte. The goal marked Sargent’s 10th goal contribution of the season (eight goals, two assists), while Aristizábal registered his first assist for TFC. Despite pushing for further late heroics, the Reds’ comeback fell short as Columbus held on for a 4-2 victory and all three points in Ohio.

ONCE A RED

Three members of the D.C. United’s active roster have previously worn the red of Toronto FC during their professional careers.

Goalkeeper Alex Bono spent eight seasons (2015-2022) with TFC after being selected sixth overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. The Syracuse, New York native made 157 appearances for the Reds, playing an instrumental role in the club’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2017. Bono recorded clean sheets in both the Eastern Conference Final against Columbus Crew and MLS Cup against Seattle Sounders as Toronto captured the MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship. He remains the club’s all-time leader in goalkeeper wins (67) and clean sheets (35), while also holding the club’s single season clean sheet record (13). Following 47 appearances across two seasons with D.C. United (2023, 2024), Bono returned to the Black-and-Red in January 2026 and has featured twice during the current campaign.

Fellow shot-stopper Sean Johnson arrived in Toronto ahead of the 2023 season and spent three campaigns with the Reds before joining D.C. United in December 2025. Across 84 appearances for Toronto FC, the Lilburn, Georgia native registered 22 clean sheets, the third-highest total in club history, and 20 victories, tied for fourth all-time among TFC goalkeepers. Currently in his 17th MLS season, Johnson has made 30 appearances for the Black-and-Red during the 2026 campaign.

American midfielder Brandon Servania joined D.C. United as a free agent in February 2025 after two seasons in Toronto. He made 31 appearances in his first campaign with the Reds before an ACL injury in October 2023 restricted him to three substitute appearances the following season. Since arriving in the American capital, the Birmingham, Alabama native has made 64 combined appearances for D.C. United.
