Toronto FC (5W-7L-10T, 25 points) take on 1998 MLS expansion club Chicago Fire FC (11W-6L-4T, 37 points) in the second of a three-game homestand on Saturday evening. The Matchday 24 encounter in Toronto, Ontario kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be available globally in English and Spanish on Apple TV.

Historically, Toronto hold a 14W-14L-14T record against Chicago through 42 regular season meetings and will look to record their first home victory over the Fire since May 2022.

Toronto FC continue their 2026 MLS campaign on Saturday evening, hosting Chicago Fire FC at BMO Field. Unbeaten in their last three home matches since the FIFA World Cup 26™ break, TFC hold an all-time regular season record of 128W-101L-91T (475 points) on home soil to date.

THROUGH THE YEARS

TFC welcome 1998 MLS expansion club Chicago Fire FC to BMO Field for the 43^rd regular season meeting between the two sides. Historically, Toronto hold a 14W-14L-14T record against the Fire through 42 regular season encounters dating back to TFC’s inaugural 2007 campaign. Earlier this season, Chicago claimed a 2-1 victory when the clubs met on May 23, with goals from Robin Lod and Andrew Gutman on either side of Josh Sargent’s equalizer securing all three points for the hosts at Soldier Field. On Saturday, the Reds will look to record their first home victory over the Fire since May 28, 2022, when an opener from Deandre Kerr and a brace from Alejandro Pozuelo lifted TFC to a 3-2 victory at BMO Field.

ONE STEP FORWARD

The Reds enter Matchday 24 having earned a result in seven of their last eight matches (2W-5T-1L) since July 16, including a five-match unbeaten run featuring two wins and three draws since July 31. On August 22, TFC secured a historic 2-1 road victory over Inter Miami CF, earning their first-ever away win against the reigning MLS Cup champions. Josh Sargent opened the scoring in the 59^th minute before Derrick Etienne Jr. doubled the advantage three minutes later. Lionel Messi pulled one back for the Herons, but the Reds held on for three crucial points in the club’s first-ever visit to Nu Stadium.

A week later, TFC extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a 1-1 draw against New York City FC. Nicolás Fernández opened the scoring for the visitors in the 29^th minute, while goalkeeper Matt Freese made several key saves to keep the Reds off the scoresheet. TFC eventually found the equalizer when Alonso Coello released Theo Corbeanu into space down the right flank, with the winger’s sweeping cross met by Dániel Sallói, who made a perfectly timed run from the left to guide the ball beyond Freese. The 70^th minute equalizer marked the Hungarian’s team-leading 13^th goal contribution of the season (six goals, seven assists) and extended his goal contribution streak to four consecutive MLS matches.

FORM, FIRE & FUN AT THE FAIR

Saturday’s showdown at BMO Field will feature two Eastern Conference clubs riding five-match unbeaten runs into Matchday 24. Both Toronto FC and Chicago Fire FC have remained undefeated since Matchday 19, with each side scoring nine goals during the respective runs. The Reds have collected nine points since July 31, posting two wins and three draws against New York City FC (home and away), New England Revolution, Charlotte FC and Inter Miami CF. Dániel Sallói (2G, 2A), Derrick Etienne Jr. (1G, 2A), Niklas Dorsch (2G), Josh Sargent (1G, 1A), Djordje Mihailovic (1G, 1A) and Theo Corbeanu (2A) have all made valuable contributions during the Reds’ run. Chicago have matched TFC’s nine-goal output across their own five-match unbeaten run (3W-2T), with summer signing and global star Robert Lewandowski (4G, 1A) leading the way. Maren Haile-Selassie (2G, 2A), Andrew Gutman (3A), Puso Dithejane (1G, 1A), Robin Lod (1G, 1A), Djé D’Avilla (1G, 1A) and Jonathan Bamba (1G, 1A) have also chipped in with important contributions for the Fire.

Adding to Saturday’s occasion, all tickets to the match at BMO Field also include grounds admission to the annual Canadian National Exhibition at Exhibition Place, which concludes its 2026 summer season on Monday, September 7.

FAMILIAR FOES

Three current Toronto FC players have previous ties to Saturday’s opponents, Chicago Fire FC. Raheem Edwards arrived in Chicago via a trade with the Montreal Impact in July 2018 and spent two seasons (2018, 2019) with the Fire. The defender made 19 combined appearances for the club, including his Chicago debut against hometown side Toronto FC on July 21, 2018, before joining Minnesota United in February 2020.

Djordje Mihailovic, who joined the Reds as a Designated Player in August 2025, developed through the Chicago Fire Academy after joining the club at the age of 15. Following standout campaigns at the U-16 and U-18 levels, Mihailovic signed a Homegrown contract with Chicago in January 2017. He made his First Team debut against Real Salt Lake on March 11, 2017, before scoring his first professional goal against the San Jose Earthquakes later that September. Across four seasons with the Fire (2017-2020), the attacking midfielder recorded seven goals and 15 assists in 76 combined appearances.

Kobe Franklin spent four years in the Chicago Fire Academy (2012-2016) before joining  the Toronto FC Academy in 2017. Joe Bendik, currently serving as an Assistant Goalkeeping Coach with Chicago Fire FC, previously spent three seasons (2013-2015) with Toronto FC, recording nine clean sheets in 73 MLS appearances for the Reds.
