BEHIND ENEMY LINES
Toronto FC travel to the City of Angels to face Los Angeles FC on Wednesday night in their final road match of the 2025 MLS season. Following five straight away draws since August 9, the Reds hold a 57W-171L-79T all-time record (250 points) in MLS regular season road matches to date. Originally scheduled for Friday, June 13, Wednesday’s inter-conference clash was moved to October 8 to accommodate LAFC’s participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in June.

AN ODE TO THE PAST
TFC meet 2018 MLS expansion side Los Angeles FC for only the third MLS encounter in the all-time series between the two clubs. Historically, TFC hold a 0W-1L-1T record through the first two encounters, with Tsubasa Endoh’s strike earning a point in their lone previous visit to LAFC on September 21, 2019. The Reds will now be looking to record their first-ever victory over the Black and Gold and their first at BMO Stadium in California.
STEP BY STEP
The Reds enter Wednesday’s clash riding an eight-match unbeaten run – the longest tie streak in MLS history – with eight consecutive draws since August 9. After road results against Philadelphia Union and Atlanta United and home ties with Columbus Crew and CF Montréal in August, TFC earned 1-1 road ties against New England Revolution and Columbus Crew in September.
On September 27, Toronto battled the reigning Supporters’ Shield winners Inter Miami CF to a 1-1 draw at BMO Field. Miami struck first through Tadeo Allende in first-half stoppage time before Djordje Mihailovic opened his TFC account from Richie Laryea’s setup in the 60th minute. Goalkeeper Sean Johnson’s heroic performance anchored the Reds with five saves, including four to deny reigning Landon Donovan MLS MVP Lionel Messi, in front of 28,855 fans in attendance.
Most recently, on Saturday, October 4, TFC earned a dramatic 2-2 draw against Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field. Derrick Etienne Jr.’s low cross forced an own goal from Jack Elliott in the 27th minute for the opener, before Elliott combined with Philip Zinckernagel twice to put Chicago ahead late. Deep into stoppage time, Sigurd Rosted was fouled by Jonathan Bamba, setting up a penalty for Djordje Mihailovic against his former club. The American midfielder’s initial effort was saved by Chris Brady before he buried the rebound to seal the 2-2 result and extend Toronto’s unbeaten and record-setting run to eight.

DESIGNATED DJORDJE
Since joining the Reds during the MLS Secondary Transfer Window, Djordje Mihailovic has been a driving force throughout the club’s eight-game unbeaten run. His late equalizer in Chicago marked his second goal in as many matches, following his strike against Inter Miami CF a week earlier, and his fifth goal contribution (two goals, three assists) since arriving in August. The newly acquired Designated Player is now poised to reach a league milestone, with his next appearance marking his 200th in Major League Soccer, split between stints with Chicago Fire, CF Montréal, Colorado Rapids and Toronto FC.
STARS ON DUTY
Both sides will be without several key players on Wednesday night due to international duty during the October FIFA Window. Toronto FC will miss club captain Jonathan Osorio and influential defender Richie Laryea, with the hometown duo called up to represent Canada in friendlies against Australia and Colombia. Derrick Etienne Jr. will also be unavailable as he joins Haiti for their Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers against Nicaragua and Honduras. Los Angeles FC, meanwhile, will be without Gabon international Denis Bouanga and South Korean star Son Heung-Min – the prolific pair who have created MLS history by combining to score all 18 of LAFC goals since August 23. The Black and Gold will also miss Mathieu Choinière and Nathan Ordaz, both away on international duty with Canada and El Salvador, respectively.
PATHWAY TO THE PROS
On Friday, October 3, Toronto FC announced the signing of TFC II and Academy defender Stefan Kapor to a Major League Soccer contract effective on January 1, 2026. At 16, the Stoney Creek, Ontario native becomes the second-youngest player in club history and the 38th player in club history to sign for the First Team from the Toronto FC Academy. Kapor joined the TFC Academy in August 2022 and rose through the youth ranks before making his professional debut for TFC II against New York City FC II in September 2024. He signed his first professional contract with TFC II on February 28, 2025, and has made 14 appearances for the Young Reds during the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season. Internationally, Kapor has represented Canada at the U-17 level and earned call-ups to national camps in June and September 2025, ahead of the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

ONCE A RED
Wednesday’s clash in California between Toronto FC and Los Angeles FC will see a pair of familiar faces square off against their former clubs. Toronto’s José Cifuentes, recently acquired on loan from Rangers in August, previously spent four seasons (2020-2023) with LAFC, helping the club capture the 2022 Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup and reach the 2023 Concacaf Champions League Final. Through four seasons with the Black & Gold, Cifuentes registered 15 goals and 20 assists in 121 appearances across all competitions. He joined LAFC in January 2020 and made his club debut against Inter Miami CF on March 1, 2020.
On the opposite side, LAFC’s Mark Delgado previously spent seven seasons with Toronto FC (2015-2021), playing a key role in the Reds’ historic 2017 treble (MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship). The Glendora, California native registered 17 goals and 21 assists across 225 combined appearances, ranking fourth all-time in club history behind only Jonathan Osorio, Michael Bradley and Justin Morrow. Acquired by TFC in the 2014 MLS Dispersal Draft, Delgado made his club debut against Montreal Impact on May 6, 2015, before departing to join LA Galaxy via trade in January 2022.
