The Red Hot Jozy Altidore

Altidore Celebration

Like Toronto FC's season, Jozy Altidore’s 2016 has been an emotional rollercoaster. The 27-year-old striker's second full season with the Reds was a testament to the perseverance that's become this team's trademark.

“There were moments where we were tested,” said Altidore, when asked about his team’s season.

Altidore started the year off with a preseason injury that forced him to miss the first two games. He returned to play eight games only to leave a game with another hamstring injury. The injury sidelined Jozy for two months and forced him to miss the Copa America Centenario with the United States National Team.

Once fully recovered, Altidore went on a tear,  scoring 10 goals in his final 15 appearances in the regular season. In addition, Altidore added three goals for the U.S. national team after his return to the squad.

As the calendar turned towards November and the playoffs rolled around Altidore took his play to another level, becoming the first player in league history to score a goal in five straight games in the same postseason, leading the Reds' run to the 2016 MLS Cup.

“I think right now he is in top form,” remarked defender Eriq Zavaleta, “He has been on a tear and is a very important piece to our run here.”

And, like his team, he's gotten hot at exactly the right time. All that's left is one more game to put an exclamation point on it all.
