Semifinalists two years ago, Pumas UNAM now finds itself precariously positioned heading into the third round of the Group Stage of the CONCACAF Champions League.
With only one point from two games, and already having lost at home, Pumas desperately needs three points Wednesday night in its Group C match against Toronto FC in Mexico City.
Victories have been tough to come by for Pumas - both domestically and in the Champions League.
On Saturday, Pumas extended its winless streak in the Mexican Apertura to five matches with a 4-0 rout by Queretaro, and fell into a four-way tie for sixth with Queretaro, Toluca and Morelia.

"Obviously this defeat hit us hard in pride, but we want to move forward the best way," defender Jose Antonio Garcia told El Sol de Cuernavaca. "It was a strange game, we left things at any time, but the group is calm, willing to work and make a good match against Toluca. It is a nice opportunity to return to the results."
In the Champions League, Pumas are last in Group C, losing to FC Dallas 1-0 at Estadio Olimpico and playing Tauro to a goalless draw in Panama City. It is significantly difference from its last appearance in the competition two years ago when it won four of six in the Group Stage with only one loss to finish atop Group D.
Like Pumas, Toronto FC is struggling domestically, currently sitting in last place in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference standings. But it's a different story in the Champions League, where the Canadians are second in Group C, three points behind MLS foe FC Dallas.
On Saturday, Toronto defeated rival Columbus for the first time, claiming the Trillium Cup, a trophy awarded annually to the winner of the annual league matchups. It is hoping to ride the momentum from the 4-2 victory into Wednesday's showdown in Mexico City.
"We tried to win this, we're trying to win (Champions League). The league is tough, but at the end of the day we're still working hard for our jobs," striker Ryan Johnson said. "That's No. 1 for us. We always want to give our best effort for the fans."
FC Dallas is hoping to maintain its lead atop the group Wednesday when it hosts FC Tauro at Pizza Hut Park. Dallas won its first two Group Stage matches, at Pumas and at Toronto FC, both 1-0.
Dallas returned from a nearly two-week break Saturday, but fell at New England 2-0, and remains with the third-best record in MLS.
"[The loss is] something we are going to have to come back from as quickly as possible," FC Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman told MLSSoccer.com. "We've had as big of a break as we've had in a really long time in the past week-and-a-half and it's something awe are going to work our way back into it."
Similarly, Tauro enters the match having lost 2-1 loss to FC Chorrillo on Saturday, only its third loss since the season began in July, its first since losing to Toronto in its Champions League opener and still sitting atop the Panamanian Apertura after nine rounds with 19 points.
