TFC26-ROS-FullTime-16x9

Toronto FC (1W-2L-1T, 4 points) recorded a 1-1 draw against Red Bull New York (2W-1L-1T, 7 points) in their 2026 MLS Home Opener at BMO Field on Saturday afternoon.

Toronto FC Head Coach Robin Fraser named an unchanged lineup from the side that defeated FC Cincinnati 1-0 last weekend for the club’s 2026 MLS Home Opener. The Saturday afternoon match marked former TFC captain Michael Bradley’s return to BMO Field as Head Coach of the Red Bull New York, his first time back since playing the final match of his professional career in October 2023.

Both sides exchanged opportunities through the opening half, with goalkeepers Luka Gavran (3) and Evan Horwath (2) combining for fives saves in the first 45 minutes to keep their side within reach.

The Reds’, however, found their breakthrough when Djordje Mihailovic ran onto Gavran’s long ball and clipped a pass into the path of Dániel Sallói, who finished the swift team move with a clever first-time lob over Horwath to open the scoring.

The 43rd minute strike marked back-to-back matches with a goal for Sallói, following his game-winner against FC Cincinnati last weekend. It also marked Mihailovic’s first assist of the campaign and 10th goal contribution since joining TFC last August, while goalkeeper Gavran recorded the first assist of his Toronto FC career.

Gavran continued his impressive outing between the sticks, producing a low save to deny Emil Forsberg in the 57th minute and preserve his side’s one-goal lead. Captain Jonathan Osorio later produced a crucial block in the 71st minute to deny the Red Bull New York captain once more.

New club signing Josh Sargent made his long-awaited debut midway through the second half, entering the match in place of José Cifuentes in the 70th minute. The Reds’ latest Designated Player nearly made an immediate impact, coming close moments after entering the match on a set-piece routine, before testing goalkeeper Evan Horwath with a strong 86th minute effort after being played in by fellow substitute Deandre Kerr.

However, deep into stoppage time, the visitors struck a late equalizer as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting bundled home from a corner in the 98th minute, salvaging a 1-1 draw and splitting the points on the afternoon.

Toronto FC continue their MLS campaign next by hosting the Columbus Crew on Saturday, March 21. Kick-off from BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario is set for 1:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast globally on Apple TV.
