Laryea and Nelson called to Canadian National Team for Concacaf Qualifiers

Laryea Nelson CANMNT Call Up

Toronto FC defender Richie Laryea and forward Jayden Nelson have been named to the Canadian Men’s National Team (CMNT) for the Concacaf Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.


Canada is in Group B with Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Aruba and Suriname. Canada will only have two matches during this window, opening with Bermuda on March 25 at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida. Canada will then face Cayman Islands on March 28 at IMG Academy in Tampa, Florida.


Laryea earned his first cap with the Canadian National Team on September 7, 2019, when he made his debut against Cuba in a Concacaf Nations League match. Laryea has appeared and started in six matches in total for Canada. 


Nelson received his first call-up to the Canadian National Team, making his senior debut in a friendly match against Barbados on January 7, 2020. He scored his first goal with the CMNT against Barbados on January 10, 2020. He has represented Canada at various youth levels, and he was named 2019 Canadian Youth International Player of the Year.
