Nothing about the game on April 16th in Dallas was normal, including Sebastian Giovinco’s stunning brace to cap an absolutely bizarre night at Toyota Stadium.
FC Dallas stormed out to a three goal lead in 30 minutes. Then came the rain. Lots and lots of rain. The game was delayed 206 minutes due to inclement weather in Frisco, Texas. Multiple planned restarts were halted by lightning strikes.
Finally the game went on as planned and that’s when Giovinco went off. He latched onto a ball from the previously soaked heavens and danced his way past two defenders and the goalkeeper for his first goal. Then came a sublime free kick, one of many on the season, that gave the Reds life late.
TFC went on to lose that game 3-2, but Giovinco’s skillset was on full display in a five hour contest that will not soon be forgotten.
