Getting to know Molham Babouli

BabouliUSL

This week we sat down with Canadian forward Mo Babouli for a Q&A session, discussing his favourite team and player growing up, match day rituals, and what he would be doing if he wasn’t playing professional soccer.

Q: Describe Mo Babouli on the pitch vs. Mo Babouli off the pitch?

Babouli: On the pitch I’d have to say that I try to be as creative as possible, try to make it hard for the defenders, whether it’s me scoring or making plays or just making it difficult for them in any way. Off the pitch I’m a quiet guy, shy, don’t talk to much but if I’m comfortable around you I’ll be myself.

Q: What are some things you like to do on your downtime?

Babouli: I guess everyone likes to relax, that’s one of them. Listening to music puts me in a different state of mind, just gets me thinking. I do coach on the side, in Milton, with one of my buddies Miles, who is also kind of my mentor.

Favourite artist?

Babouli: J.Cole

Q: What’s your favourite team?

Babouli: Now my favourite teams are Barcelona and Liverpool. I grew up liking Liverpool.

Q: You’re a local guy from Mississauga. What is your favourite spot in the city?

Babouli: In the summer I like going to Cabana. It’s a good place to just go, hang out, and meet some good people. They have good music.

Q: Match day rituals. Is there something you do to get you hyped up for a game?

Babouli: Music is always on from the moment I finish my meal until I get to the game. It’s always on. Only time it’s off is when we have the meeting right before the game but then it’s back on. It just helps me keep focus.

Q: What player would you say has a similar playing style as you?

Babouli: Everyone has been telling me I play like [Sergio] Aguero. They compare me in every way, just like my body shape, the way he runs, and scores, everyone tells me that. I mean, I don’t mind it [laughs].

Q: What would you say is your greatest soccer achievement?

Babouli: I don’t have one. I think every year as I go I achieve different goals and I don’t like to look back and say, ‘I’ve done this, I’ve done that,’ I just want to go forward. In reality I want to go as far as possible in my career.

Q: Favourite soccer player?

Babouli: My favourite player is actually Fernando Torres. Growing up, I followed him from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool. That’s why I grew up liking Liverpool, and I just grew into falling in love with them as a club.

Q: If you weren’t playing professional soccer what career would you most likely be in?

Babouli: If not playing soccer I’d definitely do something related to soccer, maybe coaching. I mean I’m already into that right now.
