Expecting A Quiet Re-Entry Draft

First phase of the inaugural MLS Re-Entry Draft takes place Wednesday but any major pickups would be surprising.

While the likes of Juan Pablo Angel and Guillermo Barros Schelotto are available, their age and current price tag makes it unlikely for them to steal any headlines in Major League Soccer, at least for another week.

The more interesting draft could be the one seven days later. The second phase of the Re-Entry Draft will allow teams to choose players and attempt to renegotiate their 2011 contract.

Having said that, D.C. United has the first pick and there is a rumour floating about the U.S. capital that Jimmy Conrad could be the first ever player drafted in this new scheme. D.C.'s defence was horrendous in 2010 and Conrad could help add leadership and experience, but he is turning 34 and puts a $260,000 dent in the salary cap.
