Toronto FC forward Dániel Sallói has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday (bench) for Matchday 25 following his instrumental performance in the Reds’ dramatic come-from-behind 2-1 win against Supporters’ Shield-leading Nashville SC at BMO Field on Wednesday night.
After Nashville opened the scoring early, Toronto continued to apply pressure after the break, with Sallói sparking the Reds’ response. Theo Corbeanu’s delivery from the right found the Hungarian winger inside the box, where Sallói rose to powerfully head the ball beyond Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake and draw the hosts level.
The 72nd minute equalizer extended Sallói’s streak of recording a goal involvement to six consecutive MLS matches dating back to Matchday 20 on August 15.
Sallói remained a constant threat as Toronto pushed for a decisive goal late in the midweek match and his involvement proved pivotal once again in stoppage time. After getting a foot on Richie Laryea’s cross into the box, the Hungarian instinctively redirected the ball into the path of substitute Emilio Aristizábal, who fired home to give the Reds a late lead.
The 93rd minute strike proved to be the game-winner on the night, with Sallói registering a team-leading 16th goal contribution (seven goals, nine assists) of the 2026 MLS season for Toronto FC.
Alongside his goal and game-winning assist, Sallói led Toronto in distance covered (11.57 km) and high-speed runs (43), while ranking second on the team in sprints (14) and shots (3). The all-around performance highlighted the 30-year-old’s influence at both ends of the pitch as Toronto FC extended their unbeaten run to seven matches, dating back to July 31, 2026, and strengthened their playoff push with another important home result.
The honour marks Dániel Sallói’s first MLS Team of the Matchday selection since joining the Reds in February. In total, Toronto FC have now earned 11 MLS Team of the Matchday selections during the 2026 MLS regular season – Josh Sargent (3), Niklas Dorsch (2), Emilio Aristizábal (1), José Cifuentes (1), Luka Gavran (1), Richie Laryea (1), Dániel Sallói (1) and Walker Zimmerman (1).
