Toronto FC midfielder Jay Chapman was named to the 2015 Chipotle MLS Homegrown team. They will meet Club América’s U-20 squad in the second-annual Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game. The match will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 9:00 pm ET at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in the Denver suburb of Commerce City, Colorado. Kick-off is set for 9:00 p.m. ET.
Chapman is currently in his first season with Toronto FC after the club signed him on January 15, 2015, becoming the eleventh player in club history to sign for the first team from the Academy. He has split time between Toronto FC and Toronto FC II this season. With Toronto FC, he has made seven combined appearances between MLS league matches and the Amway Canadian Championship this season. As a member of Toronto FC II, he has appeared and started in five matches registering one goal and one assist. Chapman scored his first professional goal on Sunday, April 19 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.
Chapman spent two years in the Toronto FC Academy from November 2010 until departing in the spring of 2012. Chapman was part of the Canadian National Team side that earned a silver medal at the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Jamaica. That same year, he was a member of the Canadian squad for the U-17 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
Chapman joins Ashtone Morgan on Toronto FC’s all-time Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game player list. The first-ever Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game ended in a draw, with the MLS Homegrown team tying the Portland Timbers U-23s 0-0 at Providence Park last summer.
