Canada and The United States Get Off To Positive Start

Jozy Altidore USA

World Cup qualifying started in earnest last week with Canada and the United States continuing on the Road to Russia with important victories.

Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore were big factors in the United States’ victory over St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Friday night in St.Louis. Altidore scored twice in the 6-1 rout over the Vincy Heat. With those two goals the Toronto FC striker moved into fourth place all-time in scoring for the U.S. national team.

Bradley made his 108th appearance for the Blue, Red and White. He's now two appearances away from eighth place all-time.The U.S. will take on Trinidad & Tobago in Port of Spain on Tuesday night.

Canada defeated Honduras 1-0 at BC Place on Friday night. A fortuitous bounce helped Benito Floro’s side erase some of the harsh memories left over from the infamous 8-1 drubbing laid by the Hondurans against Canada in the last qualification cycle.

The Canucks are in El Salvador for their second game of the group stage on Tuesday night. A win there would mean Canada finds itself in prime position to qualify for the hexagonal round.
