Toronto FC Academy midfielder Sergio Camargo received a pair of awards on Sunday from the Canadian Soccer League.

The CSL announced that Camargo is the recipient of the Reserve Division’s Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards.

Camargo is a 16-year old talent that has impressed this season with the Junior Academy squad. Head coach Stuart Neely said of the youngster, “these two awards don’t surprise me. Sergio is a very talented footballer. He is a creative mind, sees things quickly, and is able to execute things often one or two steps ahead of other players.”

While Neely had expected Camargo to succeed, the coach cautioned, “Sergio will tell you himself that he still has things to work on, one of which is to distribute the ball more effectively as he tends to hold on to it too long.”

“But we are confident that he can improve as he moves up to the (Senior Academy) team next season.”

Camargo is a part of the Canadian national setup and could spend the offseason seeing some action with the nation’s U17 team as he prepares to join Jason Bent’s Senior Academy in 2011.

The Seniors were ousted from CSL First Division playoffs early this season, but on Sunday were presented with The Fair Play and Respect Award.
