Pablo Piatti scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute, as Toronto FC defeated Atlanta United 1-0 on Sunday night at Rentschler Field at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford, Conn.

Injuries to a few key TFC players—including Ayo Akinola and Chris Mavinga—meant that Greg Vanney was forced into several changes to the group that started against the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday. Those injury concerns continued against Atlanta as Jonathan Osorio gave way to Michael Bradley in the 20th, with the U.S. international making his first appearance since September 1 against the Montreal Impact. Meanwhile, Atlanta welcomed Ezequiel Barco to the lineup for the first time since September 12 against Nashville FC.

Meanwhile, Jon Gallagher looked a threat to score in the 29th as his shot in front of goal was stopped by Quentin Westberg, but it would not have mattered as the Irishman was ruled offside. Toronto came close on a corner kick routine in the 39th, but a great header by Omar Gonzalez was stopped by Brad Guzan. They had another great chance in the 40th as Pablo Piatti's shot was blocked, with his second one ending up being knocked away by Guzan.

Stephen Glass opted to bring in Barco and Atlanta's newest Designated Player, Marcelino Moreno, at halftime, and despite somewhat of a spark, the Five Stripes weren't ultimately able to put together the final product. They did deliver the best scoring chance of the night for either side in the 68th as Cubo Torres's header on a perfect ball served in by Brooks Lennon saw Westberg come up with a beautiful save.

But TFC left it late to pull ahead on the night. Piatti's shot to the right of Guzan deflected off George Bello and into the net as Toronto delivered a late winner to shake off Atlanta.
