All For One Recap: In Praise Of De Ro

Dwayne De Rosario Last Kick

SPOILER ALERT: The following contains spoilers for the latets All For One. If you haven’t watched episode six then you should probably reevaluate your life, and after your (hopefully) brief existential crisis, watch the episode, come back and read this.

The episode bounces back and forth a lot from DeRo to the current squad, which could get confusing, but the All For Once crew make the transitions seamless. DeRo talks about his life, his retirement, and the chance to be around his family more. His camp is nice feel good story, as he now brings some of his experience to a new generation of future Canadian Men’s Team superstars. And we even get to see DeRo work some magic in a little 3v3. He’s still got it.

Hopping back to the TFC world, we get the chance to see Josh Williams on cam for the first time. Williams seems like a genuine and likeable guy. Sitting cozy on an outdoor patio I think he’ll enjoy the Canadian Muskoka life. With shots of Kantari and Gomez as well, the feeling of a final stretch-run roster starts to set in.

Reliving the SKC loss definitely stung the same the second time around, but how about Michael Bradley’s goal? Bradley screaming into the camera after his goal is an awesome image of the passion the Captain has on the pitch.

The Orlando game and the Testimonial Match are shown at the same time. This is without a doubt one of my favorite scenes.

The intercutting between the Orlando Game, Testimonial Match, and stock DeRo footage was a risk to take as there is a lot going on, but it paid off. Overall this was a joy to watch, a moment of triumph for the Reds of the past, present, and hopefully future.

Al in all, there are two main things I noticed. First up, the guy is legendary. He’s the all time leading scorer for TFC and that’s not even the best part of his career. The scoring titles, MVP’s, and of course the MLS Cups, he has enough trophies to fill an entire downtown Condo. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, he cannot commit to a hairstyle. On a quick count, I’ve spotted at least 5 different hairstyles. My personal favorite is how he tied his dreads into a man bun. Not only was he a visionary on the pitch, but the guy rocked a man bun before it became the hipster thing to do. Not sure about his preference in craft beer but he likely listens to Grandmaster Flash on vinyl.

Best Moment:

At 5:22 we are shown around the De Rosario family home where it is revealed that DeRo owns and proudly displays a bobble head sharing his likeness. I’m not sure if this is creepy or not, but something about it strikes me.

Random Musing:

Based on the end credits, if DeRo didn’t go into soccer he could have been an 80’s B-Boy/Rapper.

Saddest Moment:

I know you have to be thinking that Dwayne shedding a tear has to rank as the saddest moment, but it’s Dwayne’s trophy case collapsing and damaging some of his trophies and awards that takes the cake. Someone please start a crowd funding cause to help DeRo buy a sturdier trophy case so he can protect his hardware.
