Toronto FC II announced that the club has signed midfielder Paul Rothrock to a USL contract. He will be added to the club’s roster pending league and federation approval.

“Paul is a technically gifted player who has shown the ability to excel at several different positions, playing an important role for a strong team at the NCAA level,” said Jason Hernandez, Toronto FC’s Manager of Player Engagement. “He possesses the physicality and relentless work rate that will translate well into our team, and we are excited to integrate him into our group for the 2021 season and beyond.”

Rothrock, 22, was selected 64th overall (third round) by Toronto FC in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas in January. He split his collegiate career between Notre Dame and Georgetown from 2017 to 2020. With Georgetown, Rothrock registered four goals and seven assists in 24 appearances in a historic 2019 season that culminated in the Hoyas winning the NCAA championship, a first in program history. The Hoyas also captured the Big East regular season and Big East Tournament titles during the 2019 season. Rothrock added two goals and four assists in 12 appearances during the team’s shortened 2020 season. At Notre Dame, Rothrock scored one goal in 13 appearances for the Fighting Irish as a sophomore.

Before his NCAA career, Rothrock marked his USL debut for Seattle Sounders FC 2 with a goal in a 4-1 loss against Real Monarchs SLC on July 8, 2017. He joined the Seattle Sounders FC Academy in 2016.

Internationally, Rothrock made one appearance with the United States Under-18 Men’s National Team in 2017.
