The Pozuelo Show is off and running.
Making his Toronto FC debut on Friday night, Alejandro Pozuelo dazzled the BMO Field faithful to lead the Reds to a 4-0 victory over New York City FC. The Spaniard was a live wire in the midfield, creating chance after chance before finally supplying the opener, finished off by Jozy Altidore in the 29th minute.
He was hardly done there, bagging a second half brace in stunning fashion. After being awarded a spot kick, Pozuelo deftly deposited a Panenka from 12 yards out, leaving NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson helpless.
But the coup de grĂ¢ce was yet to come, leaving fans and teammates alike speechless in the 78th minute. Collecting the ball near the top of the 18-yard box, Pozuelo deftly chipped the keeper with his left foot to find the top left corner and send BMO Field into a frenzy.
Pozuelo was also named the Audi Player of the Week, earning 1,330 points, best in the league for the week.
In addition to his brace and assist, the 27-year-old had a 75 percent shooting accuracy rate, completed four key passes, and won 78 percent of his take-ons.
