Toronto FC II was unlucky to come out empty handed as they fell 1-0 to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Saturday night at Highmark Stadium in downtown Pittsburgh.

The Reds came out early and generated the first few chances of the match as both Aidan Daniels and Matt Srbely had looks at the opener but were ultimately denied.

The Reds survived an early scare as off a set piece Tobi Adewole’s looping left-footed volley went off the bar and out.

The second half saw the return of Tsubasa Endoh. The midfielder/forward returned to TFC II after spending the 2017 season with the first team making 14 appearances in the USL. Endoh put in a 30-minute shift in his return.

Endoh was involved in the best chance of the night for the Reds as he played in Shaan Hundal one-on-one with the Pittsburgh keeper. However, Hundal’s attempt was stopped well by Dan Lynd.

The hosts scored the deciding goal just 10 minutes before the final whistle as Neco Brett finished off a good attacking build up. The forward was very close to being in an offside position when he tapped home the goal but was ruled to be onside by the assistant referee.

Caleb Patterson-Sewell made a great stop in the final moments to keep the score where it was and the Reds had one final chance at finding the equalizer.

The Reds earned a free-kick around 30 yards out. Endoh swung it into the area and Shaan Hundal rose up and directed a powerful ball towards goal. However, Lynd countered by making a great stop to his left to deny the Reds a point.

TFC II is back in action next Sunday as they host the Richmond Kickers at BMO field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM and is part of a doubleheader with the first team.
