Boston – Toronto FC’s PhilB94 was back in action on Saturday at the eMLS Cup. The tournament shifted to the knockout rounds in its third day of competition.
Phil, who finished the regular season in second place in the Eastern Conference, opened the day with a tough matchup against one of the FIFA scenes’ oldest members Mike LaBelle represented the New York Red Bulls.
The two players split their regular season series so anticipation was high for this first round matchup.
Both players did well to hold down a clean sheet for the full 90 minutes. The match headed to extra time and it was Phil who eventually found the breakthrough with a great finish with One to Watch Neymar.
Phil was able to see the match out and take the first round by a 1-0 final.
The conference semifinals featured an eMLS 401 Derby as Phil faced off against LyesMTL representing the Impact.
The game really came down to the wire as both players were evenly matched. Phil struck first on a great finish from outside the box by second inform Paul Pogba. However, Lyes equalized on the last kick of the game finishing off a cross with Messi.
Extra time solved nothing so the game headed to penalty kicks where Phil was unlucky hitting a post and having one stopped. Ultimately, Lyes advanced winning 4-3 on PKs.
Overall, Phil put together a great weekend going 8-4-6 against some of the top competition in the region. Phil will continue his pursuit of a FIFA eWorld Cup qualification spot next week as he heads to Manchester for qualifiers.
