Toronto FC announced Thursday that the club has exercised contract options on five players while declining the options on eight players’ contracts. Four TFC players are out of contract, while 11 players are currently under contract for the 2018 MLS season.

“We are pleased to bring back a high number of players that completed the treble and brought the first MLS Cup Championship to Toronto FC. We are encouraged through this initial process that many will return for the 2018 season, which includes CONCACAF Champions League,” said Toronto FC Sr. Vice-President, Soccer Operations & General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. "We will continue our discussions with those players that are now out of contract, including the players whose options were declined.”

Toronto FC has exercised contract options on goalkeeper Alex Bono, defender Justin Morrow, midfielders Jonathan Osorio, Jay Chapman and forward Jordan Hamilton.

The 11 players already under contract for the 2018 season are: goalkeeper Clint Irwin, defenders Ashtone Morgan, Chris Mavinga, Nick Hagglund and Nicolas Hasler, midfielders Michael Bradley, Marky Delgado, Victor Vazquez and forwards Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore and Tosaint Ricketts.

Toronto FC has declined options on goalkeeper Mark Pais, defenders Brandon Aubrey, Oyvind Alseth, midfielders Sergio Camargo, Armando Cooper, Benoit Cheyrou and forwards Ben Spencer and Tsubasa Endoh. These players will likely be invited to preseason next month. In addition, defenders Drew Moor, Steven Beitashour and Jason Hernandez will all be out of contract at the end of the year and are eligible for free agency. Defender Eriq Zavaleta will also be out of contract at the end of the year, but is not eligible for free agency. Cheyrou is eligible for the 2018 MLS Re-Entry Draft.
