Match Recap: Toronto FC II at Harrisburg City Islanders

Toronto FC II at Harrisburg

Vaughan – The Young Reds were on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller on Saturday evening.

Both teams traded early opportunities but it was the visitors who opened the scoring. Pedro Ribeiro sent home a free-kick off the fingertips of Reds’ ‘keeper Mark Pais.

The Reds answered on a set piece of their own just 5 minutes later. Luca Uccello swung in a perfect ball into the box for Captain Mitch Taintor, who sprinted in and volleyed home his first of the year.

Harrisburg went back ahead on a goal from Jake Bond. Ribeiro broke down the wing and crossed it over to a wide-open Bond who slotted home his first of the season.

The Reds fired back again on the counter. Aidan Daniels played in Aikim Andrews who sent the ball across to Uccello. Luca muscled off a Harrisburg defender as he slipped home his second of the season to even the match again.

Harrisburg went up just minutes into the second half on a Brandon Aubrey own goal. The Islanders doubled their lead on a Paul Wilson goal.

Andrews would pull the Reds within one on a rocket of a shot in the 74th. Substitute Ricardo John made his way into the box and played Andrews, who sent in his first goal as a Red.

The Reds carried the play following the Andrews’ goal but could not find their third equaliser. They came awfully close when sub-Malik Johnson made a great solo run through the midfield, he played Andrews but the forward's shot sailed just over the bar.

The loss drops the Reds to 2-9-5 on the season. They return to action next Saturday when they host their inter-provincial rivals Ottawa Fury FC.
