The Toronto FC Academy U17 team finished their GA qualifying campaign with a victory over the host Houston Dynamo this morning.

After a rainy and scoreless first half, Luca Petrasso got the Reds on the board midway through the second courtesy of a Houston own goal. Petrasso broke into the Dynamo box before playing it off a defender and into the back of the net.

Houston tied the game up in the final moments. However, the Reds were ultimately victorious in penalty kicks.

Toronto FC finished the two-stage qualifying tournament with a record of 4-1-1, good enough for second place in the central region.

The second place finish means that the U17s have qualified for the Generation adidas Cup Finals being held at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas from April 7 to April 15, 2017.

This will be the second consecutive trip to the Finals for the Academy U17 team. The team also qualified for the Finals of the tournament in 2012 and made it all the way to the first place match, before falling to the Philadelphia Union on penalties.
