Vanney: "Seba has done everything he can to show his worth"

Giovinco, Perquis vs. Montreal

Sebastian Giovinco did not get the call for Euro 2016 but his supporters are an unison. He checked all the boxes.

"Seba has done everything he can to show his worth,” said Greg Vanney following training on Tuesday. “I am sad for him, but at the same time, we have him here with us and we stand to benefit from this."

Giovinco has picked up where he left off following an MVP 2015 campaign, tallying eight goals, five assists and three game-winning goals this season.

“Obviously we feel for Sebastian, we wanted him to go and play for his national team,” said midfielder Will Johnson. “I don’t think playing in MLS in any way takes away from the player that he is.”

“From the day Seba arrived he’s been the best player in our league and he’s proven his value both in our league and on the two occasions he was called to the Italian national team [for the Euro 2016 qualifiers] he more than proved his capability,” added Vanney.

Giovinco will speak to the media on Wednesday.

The Reds are back in action this Saturday to take on the New York Red Bulls in Harrison, NJ.

New York is coming off of a 7-0 demolition of New York City FC.

"We know it's going to be a tough, important match and we'll be ready to go,” said defender Drew Moor.
