Toronto FC II announced Tuesday that the club has signed defender Mitchell Taintor to a USL contract. As per club and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. He will be added to the roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and Canadian work permit.

“Mitchell is a versatile player that has experience in both midfield and defence and has proven himself during preseason with both the first team and Toronto FC II,” said Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “We are excited to bring Mitchell to Toronto FC II and allow him to continue his development under Jason Bent.”

Taintor, 21, began preseason with the first team where he appeared in four matches. He joined Toronto FC II for preseason on the West Coast and has made five match appearances to date. He was selected in the third round, 59th overall by Toronto FC in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. Taintor joins the Young Reds after spending the last four seasons at Rutgers University.
