Toronto FC II announced that the club has signed forward Garrett McLaughlin to a USL contract. He will join the club’s roster pending league and federation approval.

“Garrett is a tireless attacking threat who will provide us with much needed versatility up the field,” said Toronto FC II head coach Mike Munoz. “His ability to find space in the channels and threaten opposing backlines will be a welcomed addition to our team.”

McLaughlin, 23, most recently, played for the Houston Dynamo’s USL Championship affiliate team, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, making 11 appearances during the 2020 USL Championship season. He was originally selected 8thoverall by Houston in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.

He made 72 appearances for the Mustangs, scoring 36 goals with 13 assists during his four seasons at SMU. He was named the 2016 American Athletic Conference (AAC) Freshman of the Year as well as being named to the All-Newcomer team in 2016, the All-AAC First Team in 2017 and 2019, the All-AAC Second Team in 2018 and the United Soccer Coaches All-American Third Team in 2017.
