Three Keys to TFC vs. Philadelphia Union

3 Keys LA Galaxy

Toronto FC will host arguably the biggest match in club history tonight when they play host to the Philadelphia Union in the MLS Cup Playoffs’ Knockout Round.

Last time these two teams met, they played to a 1-1 draw at BMO field. Justin Morrow scored the equalizer for the Reds.

The Union comes into the match having lost three straight games and have really struggled to find their form since mid-June. The team has battled multiple injuries to key contributors throughout the season.

Here are three keys to the match:

The Big Three

Toronto FC will need its three designated players to step up and have big games if they wish to move on into the second round of the playoffs.

Michael Bradley needs to continue to bring the calm and discipline presence in the midfield as well as provide the leadership required in a match of this magnitude.

Jozy Altidore needs to continue to bring the BEAST MODE style of play to the game.

Sebastian Giovinco needs to be the MVP level Sebastian Giovinco we have grown accustomed to seeing.

Defend Union Counters

The Philadelphia Union is a dangerous team on the counter-attack. Look for the Union to play back and let TFC hold possession of the ball and counter on any mistakes.

It will be important for Toronto FC to not commit too many players forward and for their defenders to be prepared to defend the counter attacks.

Embrace the Occasion

BMO Field will be buzzing for its first ever playoff game. The players will need to find a way to harness the energy of the crowd to take their game to the next level.

This group of veteran players needs to utilize their wealth of experience to make sure they come ready to fight.
