Manchester City defeats TFC 1-0 at BMO Field

Call Out 1 MCFC - May 27

A fantastic goal by substitute George Evans in the 85th minute was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Manchester City over Toronto FC in Wednesday night's friendly at BMO Field.

23, 169 were on hand to witness the likes of Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and David Silva take the field, but the Reds more than held their own.

The first half wasn’t particularly enthralling, but the introduction of youngsters on both sides made for a lively final 45 minutes.

Jay Chapman, Manu Aparicio, Jordan Hamilton, Jonathan Osorio and Chris Mannella acquitted themselves well against the Premier League runners up. Aparicio came the closest to breaking the deadlock with a volley that hit the post in the 77th minute.

Goalkeeper Alex Bono, TFC’s man of the match, was superb but couldn’t prevent Evans from scoring eight minutes after Aparicio came close.

It took a terrific effort from Evans to push Manchester City past the finish line, but Greg Vanney will be happy with what he saw from a number of TFC Academy graduates in the second half.

TFC’s regulars got some needed rest, with Sebastian Giovinco playing 30 minutes, and Michael Bradley, Benoit Cheyrou, Justin Morrow and Ashtone Morgan only playing in the first half.

Joe Bendik returned from a foot injury and played 30 minutes before making way for Bono.

Toronto FC returns to BMO Field on Saturday evening to take on the San Jose Earthquakes at 5:00 PM ET.
