Injury Report: Morgan Back in Training, Updates on Mavinga, Hernandez, Irwin, Moor

TORONTO – The Reds are on the mend as several members of the backline continue to work their way back to full fitness.

Head coach Greg Vanney addressed the media to provide an update on several TFC defenders who are at varying stages in the recovery process.

“Hopefully with a few of our guys on the backline that are [dealing with injuries] we can start to get those guys back,” Vanney stated.

Fullback Ashtone Morgan is the closest to a return to the pitch as the Homegrown defender is back to training after undergoing foot surgery.

“He’s coming around,” Vanney said. “I wouldn’t say he’s match fit yet, but we’re getting him close to getting some minutes between the two teams [Toronto FC and Toronto FC II] and getting him going.

“It’s great to have him back. It gives us another option and another guy out here every single day that competes.

Elsewhere in the defence, Chris Mavinga is recovering from an adductor strain and is still “a few weeks or more” away from a return.

Jason Hernandez (calf) and Clint Irwin (hamstring) are “a week or two” away from a return to action.

“(Hernandez) is in part of the training sessions building his fitness up,” Vanney said.

Irwin, who sustained his injury in the 0-0 draw with Sporting Kansas City, has been taking part in “the basic movements” to keep sharp.

Drew Moor continues to be evaluated and will see a cardiologist at a later date.
