Frei Sees A Difference

Stefan Frei

Stefan Frei played the first 45 minutes of Toronto FC's 1-1 preseason draw with Partizan Belgrade on Wednesday at the Calista Luxury Resort in Belek, Turkey.

The goalkeeper made a brilliant double save at the 32nd minute to protect the Reds' lead through Nana Attakora at the sixth minute. However, at the 41st minute TFC conceded the equalizer with Frei in goal, via a Nemanja Tomic penalty kick.

Frei has been featured in the Toronto Sun, regularly corresponding with the newspaper from Turkey. Following Wednesday's match, he allowed a glimpse into head coach Aron Winter's game plan writing, "I can assure you that TFC will be playing a different kind of game this year. Our coach wants to play football, a simple yet highly skillful, organized and beautiful game to watch. This tends to be very effective as well, although playing Wednesday forced some players, including myself, to play out of their comfort zones. We are all expected to minimize long balls and try to build out of the back."
