Five Reds called up for Gold Cup

Toronto FC will have five players representing three different countries at the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup, which will be held from July 10 – August 1. Midfielder Jonathan Osorio, defender Richie Laryea and forward Ayo Akinola have been named to the Canadian Men’s National Team roster while defenders Eriq Zavaleta and Kemar Lawrence were named to the El Salvador and Jamaica teams, respectively.

Osorio has earned 37 caps and has registered five goals and seven assists for the Canadian Men’s National Team (CANMNT). This season for Toronto FC, Osorio has made seven appearances (MLS and Concacaf Champions League) with five goals.

Laryea has made 10 appearances and scored one goal for the CANMNT. This season, Laryea has made 13 appearances (MLS and Concacaf Champions League) with one goal for Toronto FC.

Akinola received his first call-up to the CANMNT last month for a camp and has yet to make an appearance for Canada. Akinola, who has represented the United States at the youth level, joined the Canadian squad after his change of national associations was approved. This season, Akinola has made 10 appearances (MLS and Concacaf Champions League) with two goals for Toronto FC.

Zavaleta received his first call-up to El Salvador Men’s National team for the Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers in June. Zavaleta has made four appearances after making his debut on June 5, 2021, when he started against U.S. Virgin Islands. He recorded his first goal on June 8, 2021, against Antigua and Barbuda. This season, Zavaleta has made six appearances (MLS and Concacaf Champions League) for Toronto FC.

Lawrence has earned 60 caps and recorded three goals and six assists for the Jamaican National Team. He was a part of the teams that earned second place in the 2015 and 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup. This season for Toronto FC, Lawrence has made seven appearances (MLS).
