It was déjà vu for Toronto FC Reserves on Saturday afternoon, losing 1-0 to Columbus Crew in a similar fashion to the senior team hours earlier at BMO Field.

The match winning goal came at the 58th minute from the boot of Ethan Finlay.

Toronto had many chances to go ahead before and equalize after Finlay's strike.

In the first half Oscar Cordon redirected the ball following a corner kick from Efrain Burgos Jr., at the 12th minute. The ball glanced just wide of the near post.

Eight minutes later Toronto FC Academy’s Tyler Pasher had a go but his shot was saved by keeper William Hesmer.

Toronto and Canadian fans will be relieved to know centre back Adrian Cann made his long awaited return to competitive football following ACL surgery last spring.  Cann played 45 minutes for the Reserves before being substituted for Sergio Camargo.

Camargo nearly got on the score sheet three minutes from the restart when a cross from Eric Avila found him inside the box. The Academy midfielder took the shot on his second touch, but Hesmer was there to make the stop.

After conceding to Finlay, Toronto had a stone-wall penalty decision denied when Cordon was brought down inside the Columbus area.

Toronto continued to press for the equalizer but it was to no avail. The highlight of the latter part of the second half was a fingertips save by Academy keeper Quillan Roberts, who turned a shot by Aaron Schoenfeld over the bar.
