Toronto FC II announced today that the club has signed defender Gabriel Mikina to an MLS NEXT Pro contract. He will be added to the club’s roster pending league and federation approval.
Mikina, 25, most recently spent time with SC Toulon, making four appearances after joining the French club in February 2026. Prior to his time in Europe, the defender spent two seasons (2024, 2025) with MLS NEXT Pro club St Louis CITY2, where he recorded four goals and one assist in 55 combined appearances (MLS NEXT Pro regular season, MLS NEXT Pro Cup Playoffs). He made his debut against Colorado Rapids 2 on March 17, 2024, before scoring his first goal for the club against The Town FC on October 27, 2024. The Toronto, Ontario native enjoyed a standout 2025 MLS NEXT Pro campaign, earning MLS NEXT Pro Best XI honours after helping CITY2 finish first in the regular season standings. His long-range strike against Sporting Kansas City II earned MLS NEXT Pro Goal of Matchweek 3 honours, while he was also named a finalist for the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Defender of the Year award.
At the collegiate level, Mikina spent three seasons (2020-2022) at Niagara University, recording 12 goals and four assists in 42 appearances (35 starts) with the Purple Eagles. He spent his senior season (2023) at Syracuse University, where he scored five goals, including three game-winning goals, in 21 appearances. Mikina earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team and All-ACC Academic Team honours with the Orange in 2023.
