Toronto FC II sign defender Daniel Gogarty to short-term agreement

Toronto FC II announced that the club has signed defender Daniel Gogarty to a short-term MLS NEXT Pro contract. Gogarty will be added to the club’s roster pending league and federation approval.

Gogarty, 25, was originally selected fourth overall by York United FC (previously York9 FC) of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) in the first round of the 2018 CPL–U Sports Draft. Gogarty made his professional debut against Forge FC in the CPL’s inaugural game on April 27, 2019. With York United, he logged 1,911 minutes in 24 combined appearances during the 2019 season.

Prior to the CPL, Gogarty played college soccer at York University from 2014 to 2018. He made 68 appearances through five seasons, helping the Lions win two national championships (2014, 2015) and four Ontario University Athletics (OUA) conference championships (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018). The Scarborough, Ontario native earned U Sports Second Team All-Canadian honours in 2016 and First Team All-Canadian honours in 2017 and 2018. He also earned OUA West First Team All-Star honours for three consecutive seasons (2016 – 2018). During his senior year, Gogarty also served as team captain and was recognized as York Lions’ Most Valuable Player in 2018.
