Toronto FC II announced today that the club has re-signed defender Antony Curic and midfielder Julian Altobelli to MLS NEXT Pro contracts. The pair will join the club’s roster pending league and federation approval.

“Curic enters his fourth season with Toronto FC II and offers versatility in our back line in build-ups with his strong positional awareness,” said Toronto FC II Head Coach Gianni Cimini. “Technically sound and defensively reliable, we will look for his veteran leadership to drive our group forward this season.”

Curic, 23, returns to Toronto FC II after spending three seasons with the Young Reds (2021 – 2023). The Toronto, Ontario native originally joined TFC II on December 16, 2020, before making  his debut against North Texas SC on May 22, 2021. The defender made a combined 51 appearances and scored two goals across all competitions (MLS NEXT Pro regular season, MLS NEXT Pro Cup Playoffs and USL League One), and recently served as one of the team captains during the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season. In May 2023, he signed two short-term loan deals with Toronto FC and made his First Team debut against CF Montréal on May 13 as a substitute. Prior to TFC II, Curic represented Toronto Metropolitan University at the college level and Erin Mills Soccer Club at the youth level.

“Altobelli’s technical ability in and around the goal will offer a threat to the opposition in the final third,” added Cimini. “He has a natural ability to find dangerous positions in build-ups and many of our attacks will start through him. He also enters his fourth season with TFC II and we are looking for a big year, in terms of production, from Julian this year.”

Altobelli, 21, returns to the Young Reds after spending three seasons with Toronto FC II (2021 – 2023). The Woodbridge, Ontario native joined TFC II on December 16, 2020, before making his debut against FC Tucson on May 26, 2021, and scoring his first goal for the Young Reds against Fort Lauderdale CF on June 19, 2021. The midfielder scored 10 goals and registered six assists in 71 combined appearances across all competitions (MLS NEXT Pro regular season, MLS NEXT Pro Cup Playoffs and USL League One). In October 2023, he was called up to the First Team on a short-term loan deal for the club’s match against Charlotte FC. Altobelli previously represented the Canadian National Team at the 2019 Concacaf Men’s U-17 Championship in the US, appearing in all five games as Canada qualified for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He also made one appearance with the Canadian U-17 team at the 2019 U-17 World Cup in Brazil. He originally joined the Toronto FC Academy in January 2014.
