Toronto FC II (9W-11L-4T, 33 points) returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over New York City FC II (11W-9L-4T, 39 points) on Friday evening, courtesy of first-half goals from Jahmarie Nolan and Malik Henry at York Lions Stadium.
Toronto FC II Head Coach Gianni Cimini made six changes from last Sunday’s side against Red Bull New York II on the road, with Zakaria Nakhly, Marko Stojadinovic, Stefan Kapor, Damar Dixon, Diego Nué-Brito and Elias Khodri making way for Adisa De Rosario, Daniel Stampatori, Reid Fisher, Malik Henry, Abundance Salaou and Lucas Dawson.
TFC II were rewarded for their bright start when captain Bryce Boneau was fouled by NYCFC II’s Jonathan Lopez inside the box.
Jahmarie Nolan stepped up for the hosts and coolly dispatched the penalty into the right corner to give hosts an early lead.
The 16th minute opener marked a team-leading 10th goal and 13th goal contribution (10G, 3A) of the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season for the young Jamaican striker.
Moments after a dazzling solo run from Fletcher Bank ended with his effort rattling the crossbar, the Young Reds doubled their advantage when Bryce Boneau’s clever back-heel found Malik Henry in the box, who curled a composed finish into the far corner and in off the post.
The 29th minute strike marked the TFC midfielder’s first goal for TFC II and Boneau’s fifth goal contribution (one goal, four assists) of the 2026 campaign.
TFC II made a triple substitution at the hour mark, introducing Gabriel Mikina, Damar Dixon and Diego Nué-Brito off the bench for Lazar Stefanovic, Malik Henry and Abundance Salaou. The appearance marked Salaou’s first home outing at York Lions Stadium since his TFC II debut against the same opponents on March 19, with the Ivorian midfielder returning from a lengthy injury layoff last weekend.
NYCFC II were awarded a penalty in the closing stages when Fletcher Bank was adjudged to have fouled El Hadji Samb inside the box. Adisa De Rosario stood tall between the posts, however, guessing correctly to his right to deny Seymour Reid from 12 yards and preserve the Young Reds’ two-goal lead.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men late on when Richard Chukwu was shown a second yellow card for a foul on El Hadji Samb.
De Rosario and the Young Reds’ defensive rearguard stood tall in the closing stages, seeing out the remainder of the Friday night matchup with composure to secure the clean sheet, the 2-0 victory and all three points at York Lions Stadium.
