Vanney, TFC Eager to Return to the Pitch Following Short Week

TORONTO – A short week usually means some tired legs within the squad, but there were no complaints from the Toronto FC players following Tuesday’s training session at the Kia Training Ground.

With only three days of training, the squad will have a bit less preparation time than normal, but head coach Greg Vanney believes his side will be ready as they are eager to get back to winning ways following their first loss of the season.

“The training sessions are moments to work on specific things, but as players you like to play in games,” he told reporters on Tuesday afternoon. “Especially coming off of a result that you don’t like, you want to get back out on the field as quickly as possible.”

Vanney noted that several players took part in an abbreviated training session to ensure they are rested for Friday night, but insists the team is fully focused on kicking off their three-game home stand in winning fashion against the Chicago Fire.

“We just have to manage our guys and make sure they’re recovering since we’re coming upon a busy month,” Vanney added. “We’re taking all things into consideration, we’re moving forward as a group and continuing to work on the things we need to continue to build on.”

Defender Nick Hagglund echoed his coach’s sentiments. After filling in admirably for Drew Moor in the 2-1 loss to Columbus Crew SC, Hagglund is ready to get back onto the pitch at BMO Field and help the Reds improve on last week’s defensive performance.

“We just need to focus on what we need to do well: keeping the ball, staying defensively sound. We’ll just take every play one moment at a time and put enough moments together to get a result.”
