Jozy Altidore named 2016 U.S Soccer Male Player of the Year

U.S. Soccer announced Friday that Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore has been named U.S. Soccer’s 2016 Male Player of the Year. This marks the second time Altidore has won the award. He won his first U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year in 2013. He also was named the Young Male Player of the Year in 2006.


Altidore, 27, has earned 99 caps to date for the U.S. national team and has registered 37 goals for the U.S. throughout his career.


Altidore has appeared in all five of Toronto FC’s playoff matches helping lead the Reds to Saturday's MLS Cup Final against the Seattle Sounds FC. Altidore recently set an MLS Cup playoff record becoming the first player to register five goals in five consecutive matches. During the regular season, he made 23 appearances registering 10 goals and adding five assists.


Votes were collected from Men’s national team players that earned a cap in 2016, Men’s national team coaches, Major League Soccer, North American Soccer League and United Soccer League head coaches, as well as select former players, administrators and media members.
